MEASLES UPDATE: Health Department Urging High Risk Groups to Vaccinate Against Measles (May 13, 2008) Tucson, Arizona – May 13, 2008 – The Pima County Health Department is again urging those
who fall into the high risk categories to get immunized against measles. Those high risk groups
include:
1. Infants between 6 and 12 months of age 2. Children between the ages of 1 and 5 who have not had two doses of MMR vaccine (at
least 4 weeks apart) 3. Those with a known exposure to a suspect case of measles 4. Healthcare workers, child care and school staff who don’t have proof of immunity, or a
verifiable record of 2 MMR vaccines 5. Anyone having close contact with infants under 1 year, pregnant women, or someone
who is immunocompromised 6. Others without known immunity.

City & County Urge Safe Home Needle Disposal Over the past year, recycling facility employees have been injured by needles that were improperly placed with other recyclables. In addition to the resulting physical injury, the employees are at risk of infection from viruses such as HIV and Hepatitis.

Viral hepatitis is inflammation of the liver caused by a virus. There are five identified types of viral hepatitis and each one is caused by a different virus. In the United States, hepatitis A, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are the most common types. Most people infected won't show symptoms for periods of time.
