Community Emergency Response Team

What is CERT? "People Helping People"

CERT LogoCERT (Community Emergency Response Team) prepares citizens to meet their own needs as well as the needs of family members, neighbors and co-workers in the event of an emergency. The Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security collaborates with Cities, Towns, Indian Nations, Fire Districts and Volunteer Fire Departments, Hospitals and other private and public agencies in Pima County to coordinate and promote this CERT training to businesses, neighborhoods and citizens throughout the county. CERT training is free to the public.

Following a disaster, First Responders who provide fire and medical services may not be able to meet the demand for these services. Number of victims, communication failures, and road blockages may prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect. Citizens may have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate life saving and life sustaining needs.

Regional Program Development

Pima County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (PCOEMHS) works with the Arizona Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to promote and coordinate Citizen Corps programs. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program is one of five Citizen Corps programs. The goal of CERT is to have citizens participate in making their communities better prepared to deal with different types of disasters. CERT training includes emergency preparedness and basic response techniques.

We are members of the Arizona State Citizen Corps Council and the Southern Arizona Regional Citizen Corps Councils including the four counties in the Southern Arizona Homeland Security Region; Cochise, Pima, Santa Cruz and Yuma.

Within Pima County we collaborate with your local Citizen Corp Councils: Green Valley, Catalina, Ajo, Robles Junction, City of Tucson, Town of Marana and Town of Oro Valley.
