The Pima County Health Department provides the youth of Pima County opportunities for achieving and maintaining an optimal level of well-being: physically, emotionally, and socially; and for adopting a healthy lifestyle – ultimately acquiring a healthy and productive adulthood.
Community Youth Services
Our clinics provide health care and services to youth, ages 12 –21. In addition to health care service, the following services are provided:
- Staff member assistance to adolescents’ individual needs
- Referrals to other social services and counseling agencies
- Assistance in obtaining health insurance coverage
- Information on education and youth employment skill training
Health Care Services
The Pima County Health Department strives to maintain an atmosphere that is sensitive to culture and gender diversity. All teens are welcome! Health services provided by Pima County Health Department clinics are by appointment only or walk-in basis.
The following services are available:
Condom supplies and information on the correct use of condoms
Birth control – Family Planning offers the following methods for teens: Birth Control Pills, Diaphragm, Depo Provera Shot (DEPO), Condoms and Cycle Beads (Natural Family Planning)
Emergency contraceptive pills – Emergency contraceptive pills (ECPs) also known as the morning after pill) are available at our offices. If taken within 72 – 120 hours of unprotected sex (a condom breaks, pills are forgotten), they can greatly reduce the risk of pregnancy
Pregnancy testing
Pelvic exams and Pap Smears – for those who meet the qualifications
Sexually transmitted disease education, testing and treatment Many STIs have no symptoms
Counseling and education - we want to give you all the information you need to make educated and healthy choices for your family planning needs

Teen Classes
Parenting Classes Program
Free parenting classes for all teen Moms and Dads (age 12-21) are available at our clinics. The Parenting program consists of nine weekly classes. The group meets from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. New classes start every 11th week. Prospective participants should call ahead to register for upcoming parenting classes.
Class topics include:
- Child development
- Time and stress management
- Positive discipline
- Culture and parenting

Community Outreach Educational Services
Is your social services agency, school or neighborhood association interested in promoting adolescent health? The Pima County Health Department educators are available to give presentations on adolescent related issues. Presentations can be tailored to your needs. Presentations for school, social service agencies, community groups, religious institutions, neighborhood associations, and parent groups are available on topics such as:
- Alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention
- HIV/AIDS prevention and risk reduction
- Adolescent development and other health topics
- Sex education, including abstinence
We also provide and distribute informational brochures on health education and many other topics to any of the above institutions and individuals.
