A Healthy Environment for Children
This Public Health Nursing program provides free health and safety-related consultation, staff training and referral to child care centers, child care homes, and other group care programs. Training of Child Care Health Consultants is also available through this program.
A Pima County Health Department Child Care Nurse Consultant (CCNC) is a public health nurse who has completed additional training based on the curriculum of the National Training Institute for Child Care Health Consultants and has knowledge about the health and safety of children and about child care settings. The CCNC is prepared to work directly with child care providers in family care homes, centers, and other group care settings.
Child Care Nurse Consultation Program Services
CCNCs are available to help address immediate health and safety issues or quality improvement topics such as:
- Infection control and communicable disease
- Immunizations
- Safe infant sleep
- Safety and injury prevention

- Child abuse and neglect
- Medication administration
- Health and safety policies and procedures
